POSITION SUMMARY:   Provides clinical coding expertise to Fee For Service Provider Networks (FFS) assuring that the ICD-10 CM/PCS code set and other coding is implemented in a consistent and justifiable manner.  Reviews clinical documentation and diagnostic results to extract data and apply the appropriate ICD-CM/PCS and CPT-4 codes for billing, internal and external reporting, research, and regulatory compliance. Codes inpatient and outpatient conditions and procedures as documented in ICD-CM Official Guidelines for Coding and Reporting and resolves errors associated with billing and claims processing.  Identifies and reports error patterns and designs workflow changes to reduce errors. Coordinates and facilitates annual code updates with program staff.

Development of ex vivo genome editing approaches for hematopoietic disorders.   The Wolfe laboratory will be filling a postdoctoral position to develop improved genome editing reagents and approaches for sickle cell disease, beta-thalassemia and other hematopoietic disorders with the goal of translating these reagents to clinical trials.  This project will focus on:   1) The development of CRISPR editing reagents with high activity and specificity for ex vivo genome editing in human CD34+ HSPCs.   2) The utilization of unbiased genome-wide techniques for assessing off-target events and other genomic alterations potentially associated with genome editing.   3) The translation of the developed genome editing reagents to clinical application.   These studies will expose the successful candidate to cutting-edge CRISPR/Cas nuclease, base editor and prime editor engineering approaches, and the ex vivo delivery of these reagents to CD34+ HSPCs.  The successful candidate will also learn cutting edge deep-sequencing approaches to evaluate nuclease-based collateral damage to the genome. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to participate in meetings/conferences associated with gene therapy, which will broaden their exposure to cutting edge research within the field. In addition, the successful candidate will be exposed to Cys2His2 zinc finger protein gene regulation technologies that are being developed in the Wolfe laboratory. Candidates should have a Ph.D. in biology, biochemistry, chemistry or a related biomedical science. In addition, the potential candidate must have strong oral and written communication skills and be eager to present research results at national meetings.
