The Department of Radiology seeks to recruit a highly motivated Postdoctoral Associate with expertise in biomedical imaging and translational research with a strong emphasis on minimally invasive procedures and image-guided interventions of pulmonary pathologies. The successful candidate will join a multi-disciplinary research team of biomechanical engineers, physicists, chemists, and physicians, who work in close collaboration with clinical and industry partners on studying medical device designs, treatment techniques, and related imaging technologies. Preclinical studies are performed in our dedicated research facility which is equipped with a state-of-the-art angiographic C-arm system and a 3T MRI; and use in-house developed phantoms and large animal models. Applicants must have a PhD or equivalent degree in biomedical/electrical/mechanical engineering, medical physics, image processing, or a related field. Previous experience in the medical field is also required. In addition to the requirements stated above, the candidate should have expertise in the following domains: - Excellent oral and written communication skills using the English language are required - Ability to work independently and to lead an assigned project in collaboration with principal investigators and industry partners - Experience with and ability to work in close collaboration with clinical partners - Excellent understanding of clinical workflow in interventional and/or surgical fields; interventional pulmonology or oncology preferred - Experience with translational research, specifically in preparing protocols and systems for preclinical and clinical trials and in obtaining IRB approval - Experience with medical imaging (interventional X-ray, interventional ultrasound, CT, endoscopy, etc.) and understanding imaging protocols - Experience with data analysis - The applicant would benefit from some experience in medical image processing and analysis (segmentation, 2D/3D registration, etc.), data processing, machine learning/AI, and computer programming (C/C++, Python, MATLAB, R, etc.) - Knowledge of navigation solutions (optical, electromagnetic, etc.) Interested candidates should email a cover letter, CV, and 3 references to Matthew Gounis, PhD, Professor at Matthew.Gounis@umassmed.edu

The Horae Gene Therapy Center (GTC) in the University of Massachusetts Medical School (UMMS) consists of investigators from several departments engaged in dynamic and collaborative research. The Gruntman lab works closely in collaboration with the Flotte/Keeler lab group and is currently seeking a highly motivated postdoctoral candidate. We focus on gene therapy for respiratory disease with an emphasis on airway delivery, respiratory physiology, muscle delivery, and immune responses to Adeno-Associated Virus. We are looking for a motivated post-doc to participate in ongoing work in our respiratory physiology core as well as help spear-head work in a newly established COVID-19 animal model core. We are looking for someone with physiology (preferable respiratory) background with preference given to someone with animal model experience. Strong verbal and written communication skills are required as well as a willingness and ability to work with multiple collaborators.
