Overview

General Summary:

 

The Senior Admissions Counselor plays a key role in supporting the admissions process for the medical school and assisting in enrolling a diverse class of medical students. Under the direction of the Director of Admissions, the Senior Admissions Counselor is responsible for managing transfer applications, providing exceptional customer service to prospective medical students, maintaining accurate and timely updates on the admissions website, assisting with recruitment and admissions-related events, serving as a backup for operations, and supporting the administration of pathway programs, including assisting with some advisement and ensuring compliance with program requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Admissions Operations Management
    • Oversee and manage the transfer application process from application to decisioning in Slate including training of faculty and students involved in the transfer review process
    • Cross train on and assist with some general admissions operations tasks pertaining to the processing of the flagship degree programs for the T.H. Chan School of Medicine ensuring continuity of operations when needed
    • Serve as a back-up in the absence of the Operations Manager with preparation and setup for Admissions Committee meetings, training sessions, and other activities as needed
    • Work with the Operations Manager to create and update email notifications and campaigns in Slate
  • Recruitment and Events:
    • Participate in discussions to identify strategic recruitment events using data analysis among other tactics to identify prospects for both the School of Medicine and pathway programs, allowing the SOM to attract diverse applicant pools
    • Represent the T.H. Chan School of Medicine at various recruitment events which are virtual, in person, on campus and off campus. Such events include but are not limited to medical school fairs, high school fairs, information sessions, webinars, open houses, interview days
  • Administrative:
    • Support administration of pathway programs, including event coordination and advising students to ensure compliance with program requirements
    • Maintain the T.H. Chan School of Medicine admissions website pages and liaise with the Office of Communications for accuracy and accessibility issues
    • Assist in planning and executing admissions-related events, including open houses, information sessions, advisor events
    • Collaborate with Sr. Admissions Counselor – Recruitment on planning and execution of on admissions events
    • Assist in the planning and execution of on-campus events including but not limited to virtual interviews and various on campus visit opportunities for applicants and accepted students.
    • Manage the Office of Admissions email responding to general email inquiries as appropriate or forwarding emails on to appropriate parties for response
    • Meet with prospective applicants in person or virtually as needed
    • Perform other duties as required

Qualifications

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree required, Masters preferred
  • 3 – 5 years minimum experience in higher education undergraduate or graduate admissions or equivalent experience
  • Medical school admissions experience preferred
  • Experience working with diverse populations, including underrepresented in medicine, first generation college and economically disadvantaged applicants
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities, pay attention to detail, meet deadlines, and pivot quickly when needed.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills, including the ability to give presentations
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, including the ability to interact with office colleagues and with students, faculty, staff, and the public
  • Strong technical skills and the ability to work within various higher education and social platforms. Experience with, but not limited to Slate, PeopleSoft, Optimizely (or similar website management systems) preferred.
  • Ability to travel minimally to assist with local recruitment and as a backup for domestic travel if needed
