The Department of Pathology at the University of Massachusetts Chan Medical School, located in Worcester, Massachusetts, invites applications for Research position at the Research Associate level I - IV.
We are seeking motivated individuals with a BA/BS degree in Biological or Life Sciences. The ideal candidate will have a background in Immunology, Cell Biology, Molecular Biology, or Biochemistry, with experience working in a laboratory setting. We are looking for individuals with scientific enthusiasm, strong organizational skills, and a keen interest in experimentation into the molecular mechanisms of disease and health. The goal of our research is to identify cellular and molecular mechanisms that mediate allergic responses and regulate pathologic IgE antibody elicitation (Gowthaman et al Science 2019; Zhang et al Science Immunology 2020, Chen et al JACI 2021; Siniscalco et al J Ex Med 2026).
The Research Associate will work closely with the laboratory Principal Investigator and senior scientists in conducting original biomedical research in the field of immunology. The Research Associate will perform a variety of experimental techniques, including specimen preparation, flow cytometry, ELISA, cell culture, molecular cloning, PCR, and immune assays, while assisting with data collection, analysis, and presentation for lab meetings and reports. Experimentation will include working with mice. In addition to experimentation, duties will include laboratory maintenance tasks, such as inventory management, ordering supplies, protocol submissions, and maintaining equipment.
The applicant should be motivated, enthusiastic, and inquisitive. At a minimum, a Bachelor’s Degree in Biology or a related field is required. Experience with mice handling/experimentation and basic immunology techniques such as ELISA, flow cytometry, cell culture and/or basic molecular biology techniques including cloning and PCR are preferred but not required. This is an ideal position for students applying to graduate or medical school programs in 2-3 years as the position includes opportunity and time allocated, if desired by the candidate, to participate in graduate level coursework. Alternatively, the skill set acquired in an academic setting will also provide opportunities for industry positions.
This is an open-rank posting (there are 4 levels of Research Associate) - candidates will be hired into the level commensurate with their experience. Applicants should send a cover letter outlining experience and career goals, curriculum vitae, and contact information for three references.
