Overview

POSITION SUMMARY: 

The Program Director of Nurse Education / Medication Administration is responsible for the development, implementation, and oversight of Medication Administration training curriculums. This role ensures that students receive high-quality education aligned with state regulations and professional standards. The Program Director will lead instructional efforts, supervise a cohort of instructors, and maintain compliance with state regulations and professional standards. Specifically, this role will oversee implementation of the online-based Massachusetts Certified Medication Aide (CMA) Training for Certified Nursing Aides and the Medication Administration Training for lay staff. The Program Director of Nurse Education / Medication Administration will report to a Faculty-level supervisor.

Responsibilities

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Program Leadership & Administration

  • Implement, evaluate and refine the Massachusetts statewide CMA training curriculum.
  • Ensure compliance with state and federal regulations governing medication aide training.
  • Recruit, train, and supervise instructors for the CMA program.
  • Oversee training of onsite clinical skills supervisors for the CMA program.
  • Oversee content revision and in-service continuing education module development for both programs.
  • Develop and manage program budgets, resources, and schedules.

 

Instruction & Curriculum Development

  • Deliver the CMA curriculum using engaging, evidence-based instructional strategies virtually, and potentially through select classes in person.
  • Act as secondary instructor on all virtual CMA classes in case of emergency absence of primary instructor.
  • Update curriculum to reflect current best practices, pharmacological guidelines, and healthcare technologies as needed
  • Create and assess learning materials, exams, and competency evaluations.

 

Quality Assurance & Compliance

  • Monitor student progress and outcomes to ensure program effectiveness.
  • Maintain accurate records of student performance, attendance, and certification eligibility.
  • Liaise with regulatory agencies and ensure timely reporting and documentation.
  • Implement continuous improvement strategies based on feedback and performance data.
  • Review student testing data to assess effectiveness of instructors.
  • Identify gaps or areas for improvement in instructional delivery and curriculum.
  • Collaborate with instructional teams to address skill and knowledge gaps

 

Community & Stakeholder Engagement

  • Build partnerships with healthcare facilities for skills supervision.
  • Represent the program at professional meetings, and advisory boards and in interactions with state clients, industry groups and healthcare facilities.

Qualifications

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Current and valid registration as a professional nurse under the Massachusetts Board of Registration in Nursing.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Nursing
  • Minimum of 3 years of clinical nursing experience, at least one year must have been in a supervisory, administrative or managerial capacity.
  • Formal training in and experience in adult education, curriculum development, or healthcare instruction.
  • Experience with teaching lay- or pre-baccalaureate students.
  • Strong knowledge of medication administration practices and safety protocols.
  • Ability to interact with all levels of staff and ability to set priorities and manage multiple demands effectively.
  • Strong interpersonal and customer service skills.
  • Proficiency in basic computer skills and Microsoft Office.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Master’s degree in Nurse Education strongly preferred
  • Prior experience directing or coordinating a healthcare training program.
  • Familiarity with accreditation processes and regulatory compliance.
  • Excellent communication, leadership, and organizational skills.
  • Proficiency in educational technology and learning management systems.
