Overview

GENERAL SUMMARY OF POSITION: 

Under the direction of the Principal Investigator and Project Director, the Social Media Specialist (SMS) will be responsible for the development and oversight of social media campaigns, using social media management software to manage multiple social media feeds, applying social media marketing principles to design engaging content, moderating social media communities, and assisting in gathering and interpretation social media analytic data.

Responsibilities

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Assist in the development and oversight of social media delivered health campaigns and behavioral interventions for research projects
  • Apply social media marketing principles for designing engaging content
  • Use social media management software to monitor engagement and provide regular reports to the team
  • Moderating social media communities
  • Data extraction of the social media feeds
  • Assist in the interpretation of social media analytic data
  • Train team members in social media marketing principles
  • Conduct seminars on social media marketing and related topics
  • Follow research protocols
  • Perform other duties as required

Qualifications

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Communications, Marketing, Business, New Media, Public Relations, a related degree, or equivalent experience
  • 3-5 years of experience in the following areas: social media marketing, knowledge of multiple social media platforms and analytics software
  • Experience using social media management software
  • Knowledge of and comfort using multiple social media platforms
  • Ability to train others how to use popular social media platforms
  • Data extraction experience
  • Demonstrated communication skills; both written and verbal, technical and scientific
  • Demonstrated analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Interest and/or experience in healthcare and/or science a plus

Additional Information

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Thorough knowledge of social media accessibility best practices
  • Experience with social media marketing to youth and young adults, including creating and editing short-form video content (e.g., for Instagram and YouTube)
  • Experience with graphic design software (Adobe InDesign, Canva, etc.)
  • Experience with podcast production
  • Experience liaising with stakeholders and teams across multiple sites
  • Professional and/or personal experience with youth and young adult mental health

 

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

This position will be housed within the Transitions to Adulthood Center for Research, part of the Implementation Science and Practice Advances Research Center (iSPARC), Department of Psychiatry. The Transitions to Adulthood Center for Research conducts social-behavioral research, training, and dissemination activities to improve outcomes among young adults with serious mental health conditions (www.umassmed.edu/TransitionsACR).
