Overview

GENERAL SUMMARY OF POSITION:

Are you passionate about cutting-edge research and eager to translate ideas into real-world impact? The Nonhuman Primate Reagent Resource (NHPRR) at UMass Chan Medical School, under the leadership of Diogo Magnani, invites you to join our dynamic team as an Industry Postdoctoral Scientist I. This is your opportunity to contribute to groundbreaking discoveries in models of human diseases while working in a collaborative, innovative environment focused on the development of biological products. As a premier research group, we focus on discovering, developing, and manufacturing biologics specifically designed for studies with nonhuman primate models of human disease. The successful candidate will join a growing resource with 25+ years of experience, delivering products to 1,000 research laboratories, representing 22 countries, and supporting over 3,600 grants. As an Industry Postdoctoral Scientist I, you play a crucial role in advancing the research and operations of NHPRR, delivering specialized biologics to research laboratories worldwide, and supporting thousands of research projects that drive the future of science.

About the Role:

Reporting to the director and supported by designated mentors, managers, and associate directors, the Industry Postdoctoral Scientist I will be responsible for initiating and executing preclinical scientific research and development strategies for therapeutic biologics. This role provides an excellent opportunity to work in a unique biotechnology environment where you will investigate the feasibility of applying scientific principles and concepts to new inventions and products. This two-year, non-faculty position is specifically crafted to bridge the skill gap between advanced academic training and the practical, product-centric industrial application of biotechnology. Successful candidates will be problem solvers who are able to foster and thrive in an action-oriented team environment and display a clear passion for rigorous science and excellence.

Responsibilities

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Lead Product and Process Research & Development and Analytics: Design, execute, analyze, document, and report preclinical research projects focused on developing and optimizing therapeutic products, particularly for translational applications in nonhuman primate models of human disease.
  • Drive Product Innovation and Enhancement of Scientific Capabilities: Contribute to the building and strengthening of internal scientific capabilities with up-to-date scientific advancements, supporting project advancement, and implementing and optimizing platform technologies for continuous innovation.
  • Prepare Scientific and Operational Reports: Draft, compile, and review scientific and operational reports, publications, presentations, and documents to support NHPRR’s research initiatives and compliance requirements.
  • Develop Domain Expertise: Build and deepen expertise in nonhuman primate models and biologics development, becoming a subject matter expert on a product-relevant scientific area (protein, molecular, cell, biological, process development, pharmaceutical, or translational science) and contributing to NHPRR’s leadership.
  • Disseminate Knowledge: Share research findings through publication in scientific journals, participation in conferences, and internal presentations, contributing to the broader scientific community and NHPRR’s mission.
  • Manage Multiple Projects: Oversee and coordinate multiple research projects, ensuring timely delivery of results while maintaining high scientific standards, developing and adhering to project timelines and budgets.
  • Manage External CRO Relationships: Manage relationships with internal manufacturing and external Contract Research Organizations (CROs), ensuring alignment with NHPRR’s project goals and quality standards.
  • Optimize Operations: Continuously improve laboratory operations, including day-to-day routines, workflow optimization, resource allocation, and process efficiency, to solve problems, enhance productivity and integrate new technologies.
  • Foster Teamwork, Collaboration, and Mentorship: Work and develop cross-functional teams to maintain a strong sense of teamwork, mentor colleagues in the development and execution of scientific experiments, translate research into viable biotechnological products, and contribute to a pleasant, collaborative, and supportive work environment.
