Overview

GENERAL SUMMARY OF POSITION: 

Under the general supervision of the Senior Director or designee, the Lead Carpenter constructs, installs, repairs, modifies and maintains walls, ceilings, doors, window jams, floors, cabinets and any and all hardware necessary to complete assigned work, including masonry work.

Responsibilities

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Review construction shop drawings and make recommendations.
  • Supervise all trades people assigned to specific projects, reviewing performance for effectiveness and conformance with policies, procedures, rules and regulations.
  • Prepare cost estimates for work and coordinate the purchase of supplies and material with vendors and facilities accounting staff.
  • Prepare drawings, sketches and diagrams for projects and submit technical reports.
  • Estimate and review records of time, material and parts consumed by departments; establish time and material standards for completion of work utilizing the computerized maintenance management system (CMMS) where applicable.
  • Correct, modify and revise drawings to reflect new installations and changes.
  • Supervise contractors in performance of their assigned projects.
  • While in the performance of routine duties; may be required, as needed to perform all work associated with all maintenance trades of an equal or lower graded classification; where the work or task does not require a specific license. This includes work at all off-site locations.
  • Maintain records and pertinent data utilizing CMMS.
  • Maintain spare parts inventory, ensuring accuracy and maintaining communication with material storeroom.
  • Perform other duties, as required.

Qualifications

 

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Trade school diploma, or equivalent experience
  • 5 years working at a journeyman level.
  • 2 years estimating experience and the ability to use construction means data.
  • Knowledge of power tools used in the carpentry trade.
  • Extensive knowledge of hazards and safety precautions as they pertain to the construction trades.
  • Massachusetts Construction License (CSL)
  • Ability to utilize electronic devices, such as an iPad.
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to travel to off-site locations
