Overview

POSITION SUMMARY: 

Under the general direction of the Rehabilitation Director or designee, the Education Specialist ensures the delivery of high-quality, educational services to patients at the ACCU who may have mental illness, trauma history, emotional and learning difficulties participating in summer school and educational activities.

Responsibilities

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Develops an appropriate education-rich curriculum and activities that promote the development of life skills for each adolescent student based on the IEP, ACCU treatment plan, and individual interests, focused on field trips, activities, outdoor movement and physical activities.
  • Selects and identifies appropriate educational materials and field trips for each adolescent student.
  • Provides appropriate individual and/or group instruction and indoor and/or outdoor educational outings as outlined in each adolescent student’s IEP and age-appropriate summer recreational activities.
  • Completes written assessment(s) on each adolescent student using formal testing techniques/methods.
  • Maintains individual records on each adolescent student and submits scholastic reports to appropriate personnel.
  • Attends treatment team meetings and communicates daily with Program staff about patients.
  • Provides for adolescent student safety.
  • Performs other duties/services as required.

Qualifications

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent
  • 1-3 years of experience
  • SPED certification preferred but will consider subject area certification, out of state certification, or teachers awaiting certification test.
  • Valid driver license
  • Appropriate evidence of safe driving history and skill

Additional Information

As of March 22, 2023, and subject to change, the program start date is estimated to be July 10, 2023 and end date August 25, 2023.  Accommodations around schedule are able to be requested but not guaranteed on a case-by-case basis if Program needs can still be met.
