We are seeking a highly motivated, creative, and independent individual to join our program to create algorithms to identify genomic safe harbor (GSH) sites using comparative genomics across different species. This is a unique opportunity for building, testing, and refining computational models to create more accurate means for safe harbor site detection. The person hired for this position will lead the data handling, analysis, and algorithm development efforts. As such the ideal candidate will be intimately familiar with machine learning, classification and clustering algorithms, sequencing technologies and have a working knowledge of computational biology.
The broad categories for the bioinformatic fellow's project include:
• Develop algorithms to automate the process of identifying genomic safe harbors from the current (and increasing) database of over 200 potential GSH loci in dozens of phlogenetic taxa.
• Evaluate GSH loci across related species
• Identify GSH homologues in mouse and human genomes.
• Comparative genomics approach based on collinearity / synteny of subchromosomal regions between test-species and human and mouse genomes.
• Assess suitability of potential GSH loci using available RNAseq and ATAC databases.
• Genomic editing - gRNAs and homology arms optimizations.
• Transcriptomics - analyze RNA seq data from engineered B-cells, determine effects of editing on transcriptional homeostasis of B-cell lines and primary cells.
Ph.D in Bioinformatics, Computational Biology, Physics, Computer Science, Statistics or related field
Working knowledge of computational biology and sequencing technologies
Fluency in at least one scripting language (e.g. Python, Perl) and good knowledge of non-scripting languages (e.g. C++)
Strong publication record and excellent communication skills
Excellent organization and time management skills
Must be able to handle a variety of tasks and to adapt to a highly dynamic environment.
