  • Overview

    GENERAL SUMMARY OF POSITION:

    The Building Controls Manager will report to the Director of Facilities Maintenance and will be responsible for all inspecting, testing, and maintained of the many building management systems. In addition, the position will develop and maintain a working relationship with the system providers, shop trades, engineering, construction project teams, and IT during the planning, design, construction, and acceptance of new installations. The manager will provide mentoring and training on control systems and associated software to ensure optimal functionality and reliability while understanding future needs to ensure continuous and effective improvement through the implementation of projects and programs.

     

    This position will oversee all building control systems within the facilities and use resources available from external contractors.

    Responsibilities

    MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:

     

    Leadership

    • Manage the Building Maintenance Systems (BMS) control systems, sensors, controls, equipment, and facilities to insure efficient and compliant operation.                                  
    • Direct and coordinate facilities infrastructure with IT systems to assure an integrated and reliable building control system.                                               
    • Develop, implement, and monitor system tracking and benchmarking metrics for BAS and HVAC system performance. Routinely analyzing metrics for compliance with performance, budget and energy efficiency goals.
    • Ensure operational effectiveness, readiness, reliability and redundancy of the control systems prior to acceptance after an installation or upgrade.                                      
    • Ensure that the control systems and processes operate effectively, efficiently, reliably and safely, and are compliant with the relevant standards. Provide effective and timely trouble shooting and fault analysis on the systems once operational to provide maximum reliability and availability.              

    Control Operation

    • Provide technical advice and support in the design and specifications of planned capital projects and/or contracts; including mechanical, hardware, software and control sequence recommendations.                                             
    • Collaborate with the commissioning teams to ensure adequate knowledge transfer prior to new/updated systems/buildings becoming operational  

    • Monitor and remain current with industry updates and code changes while updating management on upcoming changes and impacts.

     

     

    Control Designs

    • Participate in construction project meetings

     

    Building Management System

    • Maintain user accounts within the building management system     

     

    Perform other duties as assigned

    Qualifications

    REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

     

    • Bachelor's Level Degree or equivalent in Building Automation Technology, HVAC, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Engineering Technology or a related field                                                               
    • 5 year's of experience in controls/building automation systems, HVAC, facilities and/or energy management.
    • Demonstrable knowledge of operational maintenance of HVAC equipment, UPS, fire detection and fire suppression systems.
    • Demonstrated ability to program PLCs & HMIs and to design panel layouts and create electrical schematics.
    • Demonstrated understanding of building systems and operational processes.
    • Ability to specify components and develop building automations strategies.
    • Ability to program PPCL and other program logic relating to building automation systems.
    • Knowledge of information technology systems (servers, workstations, software, peripheral equipment) and ability to support functionality and deployment.
    • Knowledge of a SQL language is desirable. Ability to perform front line hands on work. Knowledge of Microsoft Office suite and Visio.
    • Ability to travel to off-site locations.
