  • Overview


    Under the general direction of the Principal Investigator or designee, the Research RN I will assist in the delivery of coordinated comprehensive collaborative care for DMD patients and families seen by the interdisciplinary DMD patient centered specialty medical home for DMD patients with progressive multi-system functional decline and complex care needs. The Research RN I will deliver care needs of DMD patients.




    • Provide direct and indirect nursing care to meet physiological, psychosocial and emotional needs of the patient within the framework established
    • Coordinate patients, family, and specialty providers to include the following: care for DMD patients with progressive, multi-system functional decline and complex care needs and coordination of equipment needs for patients and families
    • Contribute to the DMD Clinical Outcomes database/registry and support related research efforts
    • Assist with OGTT testing
    • Refer to surgery and coordination for muscle biopsies
    • Oversee the pre-surgery anesthesia requirements for cardiopulmonary clearance for anesthesia, rehab/PT needs of patients’ pre- and post-operative needs
    • Coordinate with Pre-op anesthesia colleagues and post op PICU team with updates on patient profiles
    • Oversee the post op rehab/PT visits
    • Coordinate hospital admissions in PICU and General medical floors – to assist NM provider with care coordination with in patient staff for smooth transition to OP follow up teams
    • Interface with PCPs of local, regional and national patient’s local specialists, ED’s, nursing staff, and parents/family care providers to ensure coordination of care
    • Perform nursing assessments of patients according to protocol
    • Schedule, perform, and/or coordinate all visits and procedures according to protocol requirements
    • Review and abstract medical record information in a consistent manner, in accordance with patient care, study protocol, institutional, and HIPAA requirements
    • Perform other duties as required.




    • RN with current registration to practice nursing in Massachusetts
    • 2 years of relevant nursing experience
    • Proficiency in electronic medical records and relevant computer software
    • Strong oral and written communication skills, attention to detail is essential
    • Ability to work in a team environment to facilitate the integrity of the study and its timely completion
    • Maintain annual clinical partner nurse compliance standards
