  • Overview


    Under the direct supervision of the assigned manager, the Undergraduate Intern is responsible for project-based tasks to support a designated department. 

    This summer internship will work with the information services team at the UMass Radiation Oncology Off-site Research Center in Lincoln, RI.  This center provides radiation therapy and diagnostic imaging services to the National Cancer Institute and Industry sponsors in Cancer Clinical Trials.   The summer intern will perform specific semi-complex assignments under the supervision of the QARC Director of Computing which include:

    • Perform regular updates and maintenance on desktops, laptops, servers, printers. Configure and set-up new systems
    • Write clear and accurate documents to outline procedures and processes as they relate to information services.
    • Identify and organize software, hardware, peripherals and parts, including updating charts, inventories and tables.
    • Help with network wiring, troubleshooting and documentation.
    • Perform other Information Systems tasks as needed.




    • Coordinate and perform advanced administrative tasks
    • Conduct more complex research to assist team members
    • Assist with the preparation of data for projects and studies; compile statistics as required or requested
    • File, retrieve, collect, organize, manage, and distribute information from diverse internal and external sources
    • Perform assigned project tasks within specified timeframes
    • Perform other duties as required



    • Perform more advanced experiments according to written protocols
    • Perform normal laboratory maintenance tasks
    • Prepare laboratory media and solutions.
    • Operate  research equipment (i.e. scintillation counters, microscopes, centrifuges, balances) and record results
    • Perform more complex library searches, reading and copying relevant materials.
    • Perform statistical analysis of data, genetic analysis and/or clinical studies.
    • Perform data entry
    • Perform other duties as required



    • Bachelor’s degree candidate
    • Related experience preferred
    • Basic analytical and communication skills
    • Attention to detail with the ability to collect and record information from a wide variety of sources 
    • Ability to use standard office tools and software (MS-Office)
    • Must be reliable and able to set consistent work hours
