GENERAL SUMMARY OF POSITION:
A Research Lab Tech I position is available in the Department of Pathology. The ideal candidate will possess a bachelor degree or above in a related subject area in biology. In addition, the candidate will need to function well on an individual basis as well as in a team setting. Strong communication skill (verbal and written) and the ability to learn and adapt to changing work demand are important. Day to day responsibilities include handling of small experimental rodents (mice), performing basic molecular biology, biochemistry and cell biology experiments (e.g. PCR, Western blot, transfection, DNA cloning, tissue culture, flow cytometry) under the guidance and direction of the principal investigator, and simple clerical tasks such as reconciling purchase requisitions and placing orders for the laboratory. The position is for one year with benefits with potential to continue beyond one year contingent on funding availability.
Under the supervision of the Principal Investigator or designee, the Research Laboratory Technician I, performs a variety of specimen preparatory techniques, dry lab data collection, and routine laboratory maintenance.

ENVIRONMENTAL WORKING CONDITIONS:
Wet chemistry laboratory, and may require appropriate contact with biohazards, radionuclides, toxins, animals, and human specimens.
