Overview

GENERAL SUMMARY OF POSITION: 

The Sr. Major Gift Officer for grateful patients and clinician engagement will collaborate with department chairs and clinical leadership to develop funding priorities and implement fundraising programs needed to sustain robust major gift ($25k+) support from patients, families, and members of the community.


The Sr. Major Gift Officer will build and manage a portfolio of up to 150 major gift prospects with a focus on those individuals with a potential of $100,000 or more and will work with physicians and volunteers to identify and qualify new major gift prospective donors. This position will play a key role in building and maintaining the clinician engagement in philanthropy program with an emphasis on securing physician referrals of grateful patients.

 

Responsibilities

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Initiate and develop collaborative relationships with assigned departments to understand their focus and help build their understanding of the philanthropic process.
  • Become a knowledgeable partner in the work, achievements, and needs of assigned departments, providing assistance and advice including assessing fundraising potential, developing comprehensive fundraising plans, and, in collaboration with the executive director and department chairs, developing and establishing short and long-term goals.
  • Participate in the process of identifying and communicating department funding priorities.
  • Develop and manage a portfolio of up to 150 prospective donors.
  • Identify new prospects, create donor strategies, and engage the donor relations team in effective stewardship activities.
  • Secure major gift level support with a focus on institutional priorities.
  • Perform other duties as required.

Qualifications

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience
  • 5 -7 years of related experience in major gift fundraising; healthcare experience preferred
  • Ability to become rapidly familiar with assigned departments
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with a variety of internal and external constituents
  • Ability to grasp quickly the specifics and the implications of various plans and proposal
  • Ability to communicate effectively using a high level of written and oral communication skills, persuasiveness, imagination and insight, as evidenced by the ability to present the aims and objectives of the development program in a manner that effectively informs and persuades others
  • Knowledge of and technically familiar with traditional and innovative fundraising programs; skill and ability to work with faculty and staff members to identify needs consistent with the vision of the institution
  • Excellent analytical, organizational and time management skills
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office programs preferred
